LOCAL NEWS:
Talk of Changing Unions?
Don’t Gamble with Your Future!

It has come to your executive board’s attention that there are several disgruntled personnel that are attempting to talk to current members about signing cards to join the IAFF and leave the IAEP.
Over the past seven years the IAEP has worked diligently to protect your rights in the workplace and to negotiate contracts that provide you with a fair wage and a powerful voice in our workplace.   Deciding to leave the IAEP to join the IAFF or any other organization represents taking a huge gamble and could mean setting our local back years in the process.

The following are just a few facts to consider:
• The primary focus of the IAFF is to represent ‘firefighters.’  The IAEP has always provided our local with experienced national representatives who have a background in EMS.

• The supervisors of PCEMS are currently represented by the IAFF, and are currently unhappy with their representation.  I urge you to ask them about the IAFF and what the union has done for them.

• The IAEP represents EMTs and Paramedics whether they work for public or private agencies in EMS or fire.  They represent YOU, the medically focused EMS employees of Polk County.

• The IAEP has successfully protected YOU for seven years under three contracts that legally protect your wages and benefits while fighting against furlough days and givebacks.

• The supervisors of Lee County EMS chose to be represented by the IAEP, not the IAFF who represent the rank and file EMTS and Paramedics of Lee County.  I urge you to speak with their members and those of their rank and file union to find out more about their experience with the IAFF.

• For the last seven years we have been actively grieving unjust discipline and have made many significant victories for your fellow members.  We have been fighting for better and safer working conditions here in Polk County through joint labor management and safety committees that YOUR UNION members participate in.

Remember, the key to a strong UNION is participation by its members; the strongest part of any union is… UNI.  Please think long and hard before you make any decisions regarding your union and we urge you not to support any efforts to remove the IAEP from Polk County EMS.

If you have any questions or concerns about continued IAEP representation or any other question pertaining to your membership, please feel free to contact any member of your executive board.
